According to EU directive 874/2012 ‘Energy labeling of electrical lamps and luminaires’ almost all
lamps must be marked with a ‘new’ energy label from Sept 1st 2013, apart from a few exceptions.
The new directive succeeds the ‚old‘ energy label according to 98/11/EG from January 27th 1998.
The energy label shall show the energy efficiency class and the energy consumption clearly to the
consumer.
(for point of sales)
(packaging, internet)
Thus, the energy efficiency class must be shown directly at the product in catalogues, offers and
invoices. Furthermore, the energy label is presented as graphic within the internet data sheet and
on the packaging; it should also be clearly visible for the customer at the point of sale.
What’s new: the energy efficiency classes A+ and A++ ++, instead F and G have been eliminated.
Another new subject is reflector lamps, focused light in fact.
The classification is conducted according to the energy efficiency index which is calculated from
input power in W and luminous flux in lm according to tables regarding the lamp technology as well
as certain formulae.
For detailed information refer to www.radium.de/EU.
No energy label is needed for
• lamps and LED modules with luminous flux less than 60lm
• battery operated lamps and modules
• lamps for special applications explicitly mentioned in the directive
• lamps which cannot meet the requirements of the EuP directives (DIM1, DIM2, TIM)
after Sept 1st 2014
